About USTaxes.se

U.S. tax clarity for life in Sweden.

We start with the Swedish situation you recognize, explain the U.S. issue in plain English, and tell you when professional help may actually be worth it.

Our purpose

USTaxes.se exists to make the U.S. side of life in Sweden easier to understand—before acronyms, forms and fear take over.

Why USTaxes.se exists

Americans living in Sweden often discover that moving abroad did not move them out of the U.S. tax system. At the same time, ordinary Swedish financial life—an ISK, a tjänstepension, an Avanza account, a Swedish AB—can create U.S. questions that generic tax websites do not explain very well.

USTaxes.se is built around that gap. Instead of starting with form numbers, we start with the situation you recognize in Sweden and explain the U.S. issue in plain English.

Sweden-specific

We focus on the accounts, institutions, pension structures and business situations Americans actually encounter here.

Plain English

You should not need to know what Form 8621 is before learning why your investment fund deserves attention.

No fear marketing

Tax compliance can be serious without every question being presented as a crisis.

Right-sized help

Some people can file with software. Some need a reviewer. Some need a specialist. We want to make that distinction clearer.

What we do

  • Publish practical guides about U.S. filing for Americans living in Sweden.
  • Explain Sweden-specific issues such as ISK, PFIC exposure, FBAR, pensions and Swedish company ownership.
  • Point readers to primary sources from agencies such as the IRS, FinCEN, SSA and Skatteverket.
  • Build simple educational tools that help readers identify topics they may need to investigate.
  • Develop a future path for matching readers with appropriately qualified tax professionals when professional help is warranted.

What we do not do

USTaxes.se is not an accounting firm, law firm, investment adviser or tax-preparation firm. The website does not currently prepare or e-file returns, represent taxpayers before authorities, or provide individualized legal or tax opinions.

Nothing on the site creates a professional-client relationship. For your own filing position, elections, entity structure or legal exposure, use a qualified professional who can review your full facts.

How we research

Our editorial rule is simple: primary sources first. Where possible, substantive claims are checked against official material from the IRS, FinCEN, U.S. Social Security Administration, Skatteverket and other relevant authorities.

We also distinguish between rules that are relatively clear and cross-border areas where the answer depends heavily on facts, legal classification or professional judgment. The ISK is a good example: the Swedish taxation is clear, but there is no one-line U.S. rule that resolves every ISK situation.

Expert review

Important tax guides are intended to be reviewed by a qualified U.S. tax professional with international or expatriate experience before being represented as professionally reviewed.

Until that happens, guides clearly state “Professional tax review: pending.” USTaxes.se will not label material as professionally reviewed unless a real reviewer has reviewed it.

Editorial policy

We aim to separate educational content from commercial incentives. Editorial pages should explain what a reader needs to know even when the conclusion is that they probably do not need an expensive professional service.

If USTaxes.se later earns compensation from a referral, affiliate relationship or professional match, that commercial relationship will be disclosed. Compensation should not determine the tax conclusion presented in an article.

Corrections and updates

Tax rules and administrative guidance change. Important guides show a verification or update date, and we intend to review high-impact content periodically. If we identify a material error, we aim to correct it rather than quietly leave outdated information in place.
